The Rolling Duffel Project is a grassroots campaign created in response to Hurricane Katrina. Our mission is to buy and deliver rolling duffel bags directly to families in local shelters who have been forced to flee their homes due to the natural disaster.

09/06/05: Gearing up for tomorrow

It's been a busy day of preparation. Tomorrow afternoon, we'll be heading out again to deliver rolling duffels. If you're in Dallas and know of any shelters outside the large Reunion Arena and Convention Center shelters, post a comment here and let us know. We continue to visit Reunion because the need still exists, and we're familiar with the access at this time. But we can also visit smaller shelters as well, if you can tell us where they are, how many evacuees there may be, and if you think that a rolling duffel would be of use to the families there!

We've had a wonderful and very recent development. Seane Corn, a nationally celebrated yoga instructor and Nike's yoga representative, will be conducting a Living Yoga Dallas weekend workshop and special master class in Dallas this weekend. Upon learning of our project, Seane has generously offered to donate a portion of proceeds from the workshop, a minimum of $2000, to The Rolling Duffel Project to help the Katrina evacuees in Dallas. Seane will be in Dallas Sept. 9-11, and we are touched and thankful for her graciousness and generousity.

There's a few items that I didn't get to today, so look for them in upcoming posts. We've had a few inquiries on how to start a project like this in other cities throughout the United States who are currently sheltering evacuees from New Orleans and other cities along our Gulf Cost. We'd love it if others were able to make this happen in their cities! I'll put a little bit together tomorrow on how we did it. It's pretty simple, really - just took an idea, the willingness to do the legwork, and a little guts to try something new and work outside "the system."
